Riddle me this

We're going to the Wisconsin Dells later this summer. I need opinions: should we take the car ferry that goes across Lake Michigan and lands in Milwaukee, then drive to the Dells from there (abt 150 miles total)? Or should we drive around the lake through Chicago (abt 360 miles)? The ferry isn't cheap--it's $70 per adult (M is free), $80 for the car, and about $44 for surcharges. Is it worth the boat costs to save 210 miles on my car, plus saving about an hour on the road? My husband says no, I'm on the fence.

I would sit down and do some MPG calculations regarding the car and the average gas price for the type you use (low-, medium-, high-octane). See which is going to be cheaper.

This is a tough one b/c that drive around the city (as you know, duh) is so awful sometimes.

I just thought I'd throw that out there b/c it's so helpful.

Normally I don't mind driving around the city and in the 'burbs...but for some reason, the prospect of cutting my mileage in half is just so tempting!

I can't wait until the boys are a bit older and we can take them to the Dells. Love it there!

I have never been on the ferry. Isn't that nuts? The idea of taking it seems so exciting so my instinct says to do that. But it is pretty expensive. It's a horse a piece I guess.
